This section is here to let those of you who may wish to travel to Paraguay know what to expect. I live in North Carolina and for me it normally takes at least 18 hours of traveling to get to Paraguay from here. The last time I went it took over 40 hours with a 30 hour layover in Santiago, Chile. So, when planning your trip, plan for at least two days of travel there and two days back.
In order to get into the country you will need to have a visa in addition to your passport. Paraguay offers two visas for American citizens. They offer a single entry visa that is good for one entry and one exit out of the country. The cost of the single entry visa is around $45.00. The other alternative, and my recommendation especially if you are getting a new passport, is the multiple entries visa. The cost is only $20.00 more and the visa is good for as many entries and exits as you want up until the expiration of your passport. You need only activate it by entering Paraguay within 90 days of its issuance.
